Panasonic develops multi-layer substrate materials with the lowest signal transmission loss in the industry

Panasonic, a Japanese home appliance manufacturer, has developed a new substrate material. The Megtron7 is the material for multi-layer substrates with the lowest signal transmission loss in the industry. The loss is 20% to 50% lower than the previous generation of Megtron6 materials. It is easier to use in the substrate process. It was exhibited in June 2014 and was mass-produced by Panasonic AIS (Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems) from August 2014.

Megtron7 will be supplied with core material R-5785 or Prepreg R-5680. It is suitable for high-end servers, high-end routing, supercomputers, etc. These high-end information products require high-speed data. Multi-layer substrates for transmission; while smart phones and tablets are demanding thin and high performance, high-performance multilayer substrates are also required, and Panasonic AIS's new materials are in high demand.

Megtron7 uses the newly developed main material polyphenylene ether (PPE) with the applicable bridging agent. When transmitting 1GHz signal, the dissipation coefficient is only 0.001, which is 50% of Megtron6; the signal transmission loss is the lowest at present, when transmitting 12.5GHz signal, It is only 24 decibels per meter (24dB/m), which is 6 decibels lower than the 30 decibels of the Megtron6, that is, the loss is reduced to 50% and the permittivity is 3.3.

PanasonicAIS uses a Megtron7 to make a 28-layer substrate with a total thickness of 4.0 mm (mm) and conducts performance and reliability tests. The substrate of the Megtron7 material not only meets the performance requirements, but also successfully demonstrates higher heat resistance and reliability of the older products. The related substrates can tolerate more processing methods, which are suitable for more main products and more production methods.

For example, Reflow test, 28 layers of substrate reflowed back and forth 10 times in 260 degrees Celsius environment, no abnormalities were found; glass transition temperature test, 210 degrees Celsius test successfully passed; pyrolysis temperature test passed 400 degrees Celsius test; The 500-hour insulation test with 121 degrees Celsius, 85% relative humidity and 50V voltage is equally safe.

Panasonic AIS's Electronic Materials Division said that as the substrate of the electronic equipment, as the machine clock and data transmission speed increase, the importance of the substrate material composition is increasing. Megtron7 successfully passed the high-frequency signal transmission of 12.5~15GHz commonly used in recent years. The loss is reduced, and the demand for multi-layer substrate materials for high-end servers, high-order routing, and supercomputers is a new breakthrough.

Panasonic AIS's Electronic Materials Division also stated that Panasonic AIS's Megtron7, a leading manufacturer of multi-layer substrate materials for the high-end information products market, ensures that products using this material can transfer larger amounts of data at higher transmission speeds. .
